October 2019 ~ the one-year anniversary of Ryan’s passing. His “angel-versary” as it is called.
A painful time; we dreaded it’s approach.
In an attempt to abet the hurt and face the black cloud, Gracie had the idea to observe the day by celebrating Ryan’s life with some of his favorite things ~ family, friends, exercise/hiking, Big Blue (some people call it Lake Tahoe J), sunshine, music, food. . . and a polar plunge! Ryan was known to jump into Big Blue year-round ~ he especially loved to start New Year’s day by jumping off the dock at King’s Beach. brrr!
So despite knowing it would be a tough weekend, we put the word out ~ very informally, with a text here and there ~ and 33 friends and family members joined us, each wearing one of Ryan’s favorite team shirts/jerseys, to walk the East Shore Trail. After the walk from Sand Harbor we met beachside at the Hyatt for brunch, then jumped off the dock as we yelled, “1! 2! 3! Ryan!!” again: brrr!
Thank you to everyone who sent emails, texts, calls and cards; also the walkers and the non-walkers, for the love and support at this juncture.
Here we all are at Hidden Beach, the halfway point!
Polar Plunge: Ready 1, 2, 3!
